John blogs about feeling like part of a family

12 July 2010

In his fifth post, our blogger John talks about one placement where really he felt like part of a family.

In the end Lee and his family loved me. They gave themselves to me and I gave myself back. We had our ups and downs as any family does, but we’re still here. I still spend hours talking to Lee’s mum when we get together. I go to family and friends’ parties at Lee’s mum’s house where I sometimes drink too much and have to stay over (although not in my old bedroom because it’s now a toilet). We are all still family. (excerpt from 'A part of the family')

John is a careleaver with a lot to say about his experiences of the system. He has been blogging for The Who Cares? Trust since the start of 2010. His eloquently expressed posts are, although sometimes brutally honest about the shortcomings of the care system, an uplifting and inspirational read for anyone and everyone in the sector - particuarly young people currently in care.
