Phew! The hard work is over - now let's hope it paid off! This section explains what to do while you're waiting for the job offer.
Remember - even if you don't get offered the job, you will have gained confidence and the experience will make even more prepared for your next interview.
Waiting for a decision...
Relax! It's too late to change anything now. If you think of anything you could improve, make a note of it for next time.
At the end of your interview you will normally be told when they plan to make their decision. If not, you should ask them so that you know how long you'll have to wait.
Remember that they will have several other candidates to see and that it might take a bit of time for them to reach a decision.
Don't be surprised if you are called back for a second interview - organisations often do this if they can't decide between a couple of candidates.
Many companies don't automatically let people know if they haven't got the job, so if you don't hear anything after a week or so give them a call. But don't keep chasing them.
Been offered the job? Congratulations!
Now you need to decide if you want to accept the job. Remember that you don't have to make a decision straight away - it's absolutely fine to ask for a couple of days to think about it. But don't leave it for too long!
You will need to negotiate a salary and start date with your new employer. If you already have a job you will probably have a notice period, so make sure that you find out how long this is.
If you accept the job, you will normally receive an offer letter and contract of employment. If you are leaving your current job, it is advisable not to resign until you have received something in writing from your new employer.
Not good news this time?
It's always disappointing if you don't get offered the job but look at the positive - you can use the skills you have learnt for your next interview.
Make sure that you ask the interviewers for feedback about why you weren't offered the job. This will help you improve for next time.
Don't forget - there were probably loads of applications, and you did really well to get an interview. Keep trying - you'll get there in the end.
