Are you in care?

Welcome!

Young boy wearing face paintThis part of our website is for all young people currently in the care system or who have recently left care - the people The Who Cares? Trust is here to help.

You can read true life stories sent in by young people about their experiences in care, interviews with celebrities or explore our problem page.  We've even added some games and random ideas about stuff you can do in case you get fed up with reading!

Most importantly, please let us know what you think. We're here to stand up for you and to help make the experience of being in care a good one.

Your views help us to find out what's really going on out there in the world of care and to understand what needs to change.

Let us know what you think about care

So how do you get in touch? There are a few ways.

Firstly, if you have general views about the care system - what's good, what's bad -  you can either leave a comment in the comments box at the bottom of this page which other visitors to this site will be able to see, or you can email us at campaigns@thewhocarestrust.org.uk. It might be that you have ideas about parts of the care system that you think could be improved, or on the other hand you might want to draw our attention to good things happening in care, like particular schemes in your area.  If you want to send us an email and you're happy for your email (or parts of it) to be used on this website, please say so.  Because we're a small charity, we can't promise to answer every email, but we do read them all and find it really helpful to hear your views.                                                                              Teenagers on school steps

If you want to tell us about personal experiences of care you've had because you think it might be helpful to other young people, look at the True Life Stories section and find out how to send your story in.

Lastly, if you need personal help and advice about a problem or something that has happened to you, try calling ChildLine on 0800 1111 - calls are free and you can call any time, although sometimes it can be hard to get through because of the number of young people calling.

Take a look at the links section on this website (it's at the top of every page) for details of lots of other organisations that help young people.

Do you get treated differently because you're in care?

I think it's a really great way of asking people about their lives, as they maynot be able to differentiate. I know that I get treated really deifferent and worse than people of my age, especially my school mates and this is why I feel different. I have had four social workers in the process of five months and the present social worker just doesn't deal with my things the way my previous socal worker did and I cant do anything about it.
  2. Shara says:

I do get treated diffrently but not in a bad way then again I wouldn't say that it was good either. My friends treat me diffrent becuase I guess I am diffrent to them and that is something that I have got use to. Teachers treat me like I am royal or something which also reminds me that I am diffrent. What I think is that it shouldn't be the foster children that should be treated like royalty it should be the kids that aren't in care but need to be!
