What sort of things could I do?
Specific tasks would vary hugely depending on what career you decided to pursue. But you could be involved in...
- Combat
- Engineering
- Medical
- IT
- Communications and intelligence
What qualifications would I need?
You would have to take an entrance test, known as the BARB test, but this is only done as a a way of helping to discover what types of jobs would suit you best.
The armed forces has opportunities for those who have just finished doing their GCSEs right up to university graduates. If you haven't got the right qualifications to apply for the job you are interested in, or if you want to continue your education as well as join the armed forces, you could consider studying at one of the Army's further education colleges.
Would it suit me?
There are so many careers in the armed forces that you should be able to find something that matches your skills, qualifications and interests.
As well as being able to work towards qualifications, you will often get the chance to travel and see some of the world and take part in team sports such as football, rugby, netball and hockey.
Fitness is an important part of a career with the armed forces and candidates for all jobs are required to meet a certain level of fitness before entry.
However, everyone in the armed forces can potentially face life-threatening situations so it's not a career that should be entered into without serious consideration.
Career Prospects
You can pick up valuable skills and recognised qualifications in the Army - all while getting paid for it.
Starting pay is similar to other first jobs but being in the armed forces does mean continuous chance for promotion as well as the chance to gain professional qualifications.
