Watch the campaign film

As part of the 'Don't write us off' campaign, a group of care leavers worked with professional filmmakers to produce a film that tells the truth about life in care.

Having seen too many stereotypes of children in care on TV and in the media – young men being angry and hitting cars, ‘hoodies’ drinking on the street outside care homes – the group wanted to get to the truth.

Their film shows both the 'good' and 'bad' sides of growing up in the care system, and to tackle unfair stereotypes about young people in care.

‘I really enjoyed doing this film. When I finished it felt like my views and words have been listened to. It made me feel like I am not alone and I am not the only one who’s always lonely and feeling down. It really helped me and it got me support so that I can talk about my feelings. I am sooooo happy!’ (young person)

This is a fantastic video that gave me a sense of what being in care is like. I am doing a project on the Impact that care has on a childs development and to see peoples stereotype of young people.

Really enjoyed this. I work with young people who have been through the care system and think those who can dream and then realize their dreams through a positive attitude, accepting support and seizing opportunities are inspirational. Well done to all who participated and made this film- very creative.

I lecture in social work at Glasgow Caledonian University. I will definately be using this video in teaching to raise social work students awareness of children's experience of the care system. It is very well done, informative and user friendly.
