Sainsbury’s Trading Division Charity of the Year

We are delighted to announce that Sainsbury’s Trading Division has raised £42,000 for The Who Cares? Trust as part of a year-long partnership.

Sainsbury’s Trading Division reached their initial target of £10,000 just a few months into the partnership and went on to raise a fantastic total to help provide information and support to children in care in London. As part of Sainsbury’s 140th birthday celebrations, Sainsbury’s Trading Division chose The Who Cares? Trust as one of their local charities of the year. Throughout the year employees and suppliers have got involved, raising money through a number of activities.

Employee fundraising activities

Employees organised sample sales to raise money, cycled from London to Paris and trekked the Inca Trail. Our Inca Trail trekkers raised some of their sponsorship by holding their own ‘I’m a celebrity get me out of here’ buck tucker trial! The partnership also got support from the Newman’s Own Foundation, helping us raise such a great total. The partnership culminated with a great final event at Sainsbury’s Head Office where employees got involved by playing Wii, play your cards right, raffles and many more activities.

Making a difference to children in care

The money raised will make a huge difference to our work with children in care in the capital. It will help 2,000 children in care in London get the support of Who Cares? Magazine, a publication with information and advice on issues that affect young people in care. It has also supported the development of a new resource to help give young people leaving care the life skills and confidence they need to live on their own.

The Who Cares? Trust would like to say a huge thank you to everyone at Sainsbury’s Head Office for their tremendous support over the last year.
