Drugs and the law

 

The law about drugs is complicated, we know. But if you're caught with illegal drugs on you, the police won't accept excuses. If you're using drugs, you owe it to yourself to understand the laws about the different drugs and what your rights are if you're suspected of possession, or possession with intent to supply. Class A

Cocaine, crack, crystal meth, ecstasy, heroin, LSD (acid), magic mushrooms, methadone, opium, and any class B drug that is prepared for injection.

The maximum penalty for possession is seven years in prison and/or a fine and for supplying, you could get life imprisonment and/or a fine.

 
Class B

Amphetamines (speed), barbiturates, cannabis and codeine.

The maximum penalties for possession are five years in prison and/or a fine and for intent to supply you could get 14 years in prison and/or a fine for possession.

 
Class C

Ketamine, some tranquillisers like Temazepam, the supply of anabolic steroids;

The maximum penalties for possession are two years in prison and/or a fine and for intent to supply you could get five years in prison and/or a fine.
