Foster carers

Foster carers are a very important part of the lives of most children in care. The work can be challenging but it makes all the difference to a young person's life to have someone who cares about and supports them. Where relationships work out, they can be hugely rewarding for both parties.

These pages bring together our resources to help foster carers better support children in their care and to get the right help when they need it. A major project for The Who Cares? Trust in 2009 is the develpment of a new resource to help foster carers nurture the potential of children in their care.

Choice Matters - new resource for foster carers

We are developing a new interactive DVD to support foster carers to be launched in January 2010. We're working with and listening to many foster carers as we put information together. The heart of this new product will be information about how to give your fostered child the best start in life - supporting them educationally and socially.

Useful links for foster carers

Our links section explores a range of helpful organisations - covering everything from sexual health, eating disorders, bullying and career development for young people, as well as support groups for foster carers.

Who Cares? magazine

Our magazine for looked after children talks to them about their life experiences, barriers they've overcome, and places where they can seek help. Talk to your local authority if your foster child doesn't currently recieve a copy.

Feature: Siblings apart?

Many children are separated from their sibilings as well as their parents when they go into care. We talk to Siblings Together about the importance of helping children stay in touch, and to Aaron, who was fostered at the opposite end of the country from his twin.
