The first thing to do if you have a complaint is to talk to someone close to you. It could be your carer or any of the people listed above.
If you live in a children’s home there will be a complaints procedure for the home, and someone should have explained to you when you first came how to use it. You should be able to make a complaint about anything in the home – big or small – without worrying about what might happen.
If you make a complaint about your care (like for example the local authority wanting to move you from a placement where you are happy and want to stay), your local authority must pass it on to its complaints officer and they have 14 days to try to sort it out for you. If they can’t sort it out, then your IRO will help you to go through the council’s formal (more serious) complaints procedure.
You should be told what is happening about your complaint and anything that is done about it.
If something has gone so badly wrong that you need legal advice, your IRO will help with that too.
