National Care Leavers' Week 2009

Events are taking place throughout the UK at local and regional level to celebrate achievement, raise awareness and promote good practice.

Home from Home - Voice's exhibition of art by care leavers 

To mark Care Leavers' Week, Voice are exhibiting art by children from care at Star 12 Gallery in Westminster. The exhibition, entitled Home from Home, is an opportunity for the young people to exhibit their talents in art and poetry, celebrate their diverse experiences and share their aspirations with a wider audience. The art

Sally Bortolo's experience of care was one of constant movement and change. She explained that her images 'Travelling' and 'Get Set Go!' represent how she felt that she was constantly being made to stop and start, and never knew where she would be next. However, throughout all of the upheaval, Sally said that her love of good food has always been there. That's why she took this stunning photograph of red peppers:

Michael Parker entitled his set of images 'Home Landscape'. He took a beautiful photo of his best friend, his dog that he had taken with him on every placement he'd had. The image below is of a house in the country that he stayed at for a while with a foster family. He told us that the image brought back happy memories:
