Helping children in care to thrive

Our policy work

Panel takes questions at a pre-election event in 2010Many young people come through the care system and go on to successful family lives and good jobs. Many have loving, dedicated foster carers and encounter social workers who go the extra mile to fight for the opportunities and support that make all the difference to a child in care.

But the bigger picture is that when a child is taken into care they enter a giant postcode lottery with their futures at stake on the outcome. The quality of the experience of being in care varies enormously, depending on what local authority you live in.

There is a recognition among politicians, professionals, carers and of course young people themselves that despite improvements over the years, many things remain very wrong with the care system.

The Who Cares? Trust works to influence improvements in policy and practice by ensuring the views and experiences of children in care are heard at the highest level.
