Phase 1 (2010-11)
Using photography, film and written words young people from care told their stories in an effort to inspire change in attitudes from professionals and policy makers in the sector.
The aim was to give young people a voice with which to tell a different story about being in care. In addition to raising awareness of the issues surrounding care, the project aimed to create opportunities for young people to work with others, to develop life skills and to build a platform for achievement.
Care leavers aged 16 to 25 from London and the south east were recruited as volunteers to take part in the project, funding for which was provided by V – the National Young Volunteers Service.
Over the year 40 young people took part in the project which had both a photography and a journalism element. The material generated was used to create a film, a photography exhibition and a magazine.
