Topics covered by the APPG

Over the past year the APPG has talked about a wide range of topics and had some important speakers. This has enabled young people to express their views on care to the people who have the power to make changes.

  • October 2010 - Question & Answer session with Tim Loughton MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Children and Families
  • January 2011 – Residential care: looking at the changing nature of residential care over the years and discussing hopes for the future, with John Diamond (CEO, Mulberry Bush School) and Mike Lindsay (Head of Advice, Office of the Children’s Rights Director)
  • March 2011 – Joint meeting with the APPG for Children on the Munro Review of Child Protection, with Professor Eileen Munro
  • May 2011 – Challenges in foster care, with Sally Bartolo (care leaver), Kevani Kanda (care leaver), Tim Loughton MP (Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Children and Families), Robert Tapsfield (CEO, The Fostering Network) and Viv Kind (Foster Carer)
  • July 2011 – Education of looked after children, with Aicha Camara (care leaver), Matthew Blood (Virtual School Head, Westminster, Sarah Hurrell (Project Support Officer, Aim Higher Kent & Medway)
