This is the ultimate challenge to climb the highest mountain in Africa. Climbing Kilimajaro is one of the most popular overseas challenges and one of the mountains almost every mountaineer and trekker in the world wants to conquer. The highest free standing mountain in the world it dwarfs other regional landmarks like mt. Kenya and dominates the savannah of East Africa. It takes 7 days to reach the summit and descend, staying in huts along the way.

Itinerary

Day 1: Overnight flight from Heathrow.

Day 2: Arrive in Nairobi for the onward flight to Tanzania. We then transfer to the hotel in the village of Marangu, 2k from the park entrance.  

Day 3: Trek Marangu Gate to Mandara Huts. The trail leads through dense forest filled with the chattering of Columbus monkeys. 4-5 hours. 

Day 4: Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut. The landscapes takes on a more rugged terrain as we pass the cloud level! 7-8 hours. 

Day 5: Acclimatisation trek. We trek up to 4,200 metres for some spectacular views of the twin peaks and trail to the summit. We return to Horombo for lunch and relaxation time. 5 hours. 

Day 6: Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut. This day starts with some spectacular moutain flora and fauna, including giant cacti. We then enter the desert zone of the mountain as we enter higher altitude. 7-8 hours.

Day 7: Acclimatisation trek. We trek to 5000m to prepare for the ascent to the summit. 5 hours.

Day 8. The Summit. We set off just after midnight to embark on a slow ascent up the steepest and most difficult part of the challenge to Gilman's Point at 5685m where we watch the sunrise. This qualifies as the summit but there is an option to trek a further 2 hours to Uhuru Peak at 5895. 15-17 hours.

Day 9. Horombo Hut - Marangu. Descent is rapid and tonight we are back to our hotel for a celebratory meal. 6-7 hours.

Day 10. Free time in the morning before transferring for our flight home.

Day 11. Arrive back in London.

How much will it cost?

The initial registration fee is £350 and we ask you to raise £3,400 in sponsorship. All your flights, transfers, accommodation, meals and full support from experienced guides is included and we make all the arrangements. Don't worry if you've not raised sponsorship before. We'll be there to support you and you'll receive a full fundraising pack to help you. It can seem daunting but raising money can be really fun and once you get started it's amazing what you can achieve.

What's not included?

Airport taxes, personal travel insurance, gratuities and spending money.

How fit do I have to be?

Kilimanjaro is one of the toughest challenges and training is essential. Don't worry we'll provide you with training tips to help you on your way.
