We work with charitable trusts and foundations to deliver projects that improve the lives of children in care.
Children in care are amongst the most vulnerable and disadvantaged in the country and although government policy has progressed in recent years, the poor outcomes of these young people are not improving fast enough. Their chances of becoming long-term unemployed, homeless, involved in crime and living on the margins of society are still disproportionately, and unacceptably, high.
At The Who Cares? Trust we help thousands of children in care directly through our publications and projects and also help bring about change by guiding and influencing those responsible for children in care. We rely on voluntary donations and we are always looking for new support to enable us to develop projects and maintain our core work.
Projects we are currently seeking funding for include:
This is a new guide to help young people leaving care healthily on a budget.
Children in care have to cope with independent living at an earlier age than their peers. Around 6,000 leave the care system every year and most are 16 or 17. One of the strong messages we hear in our work is that too many young people feel they are not ready to cope on their own and do not have the life skills or get the support they need. Who Cares? About Cooking, will provide tips on cooking and healthy eating and promote the positive role that healthy eating plays in emotional and physical wellbeing.
Who Cares? magazine is the only publication solely for young people in care and a core part of our work. It offers a voice and a creative outlet for children
in care as well as providing support and information on issues that directly affect their lives.
The quarterly magazine reaches 25,000 young people in care and features everything from new legislation and features, to problem pages, young people's poetry and inspirational stories from successful care leavers. Young people from all over the country take an active role in each magazine through interviews, letters, poems, reviews and competitions helping vulnerable young people in care feel part of a community and ensuring they know where to turn to if they need help.
"Who Cares? really helped me. It encouraged me to do well at school and helped me to stay strong and happy. It also made me want to write, which is why I'm now studying English at Uni. Thank you."

We need support to enhance our core work influencing policy and practice affecting children in care. We rely on voluntary donations to stay at the forefront of social care policy and ensure the views and experiences of children in care are represented. Help us use our influence with key stakeholders and policy makers to effect positive change faster and ensure a sustained improvement in the life outcomes for children in care.
