What could make you get an eating disorder?

 

Everyone's different and anything can unsettle you in life but common things that can trigger an eating disorder could be:



  • Being criticised for your eating habits, body shape or weight.
  • People in their family having eating disorders or an unhealthy attitude towards food, depression or substance misuse.
  • Being overly concerned with being slim; trying to look as slim as people in the media or for a job based on looks or fitness - like ballet dancers, singers, models or athletes...
  • Having an obsessive personality, an anxiety disorder, low self-esteem or being a perfectionist.
  • Bad experiences, sexual or emotional abuse or the death of someone special
  • Difficult relationships with family or friends
  • Stress - problems at home work or school.
 

We can all make everyone’s life easier... try not to be mean about how people look or about their weight.
