Summer 2011's Regional Roundup

Derbyshire – All the fun of the fair and freebies

Free books and fun were everywhere at the 8th Big Book Bash festival where Horrid Henry author, Francesca Simon, awarded children in care for their achievements. Prizes were given for achievements in music, sport, education, helping in the community and showing massive amounts of courage. Fantabulous!

Kent– Not exactly Hogwarts?

Kent council is talking about sending children at risk of going into care to the safety of posh private boarding schools instead of children’s homes.

Norfolk – Facing trouble

Kids from children’s homes who’ve got in trouble with the police have faced their victims and found out how rubbish they’ve made people feel. Now crimes by kids in the children’s homes have dropped by over half!

Devon & London – Swap shop

Buddying up with no postcode politics! Young people in care from Devon and London’s Waltham Forest have been going out of their zones and trading places to see how different or similar their experiences in care are and to learn from each other.
