Whitney from Eastenders

Shona Mcgarty plays Eastenders wild Whitney Dean...

Pink ink splat

Name?

Shona Mcgarty.

Date of Birth?

October 14, 1991.

Starsign?

Libra.

What are you most famous for?

Playing Whitney Dean in Eastenders.

What’s the funniest thing that’s happened on set?

In one scene I had to carry lots of shopping bags into Pat’s house and shut the

door with my bum, but I must have done it a little too hard as the letter box fell

off!

Do you think Whitney can ever be happy?

With the right help and support, I think she can. Obviously she'll never forget

what's happened to her, but  I'm sure that EastEnders will make sure it won’t

just be forgotten about and you'll see a different Whitney!

Whitney was abused by her stepmum Bianca's boyfirend, then

groomed by her boyfriend Rob - how hard were these storylines?

Tough. I met girls that had actually been in these situations, so I know from

them what they went through. I just hope I played it right for them and it

raises awareness of the issue. If more people knew about it, it could prevent

it from happening as much.

What’s the best thing about working on Eastenders?

Doing a job I absolutely love! I'm really lucky to have amazing storylines and

to make a real impact on people facing issues that Whitney's been through.

What would you do if you could give Whitney a make over?

Oooh hard one! I'd make her a bit more girly and get her to wear dresses!

What’s your fave TV show?

EastEnders and Come Dine with Me - that narrator is very, very funny!

What’s your guilty pleasure?

It would have to be singing. I sing whenever I can!

What do you sing in the shower?

A bit of Aretha Franklin and some old soul classics.

What’s your most embarrassing moment?

I was at a friend’s party and  I slipped on some cake on the floor and fell

over. When I tried to get up, I fell over again and my friend had to pull me

up and remove me!

What do you dream of doing that you haven’t done?

Working with young people and getting more involved in charity

work.

Cares? magazine... Haven't got your copy? Find out
