A useful resource detailing best practice for those professionals concerned with the reunification of young people in care.
Going home from care can be a highly emotive and significant transition for young people and their families. It can involve conflicting feelings of loyalty as well as fear, as ‘going home’ can offer the promise of permanency and security - or further disruption and uncertainty.
The Journey Home explores the experiences of reunification from a range of different perspectives: children and young people in and leaving care, families, carers and relevant professionals. It also highlights the importance of services working together to achieve a lasting reunion and a successful outcome for young people returning to their families.
The 2007 White Paper Care Matters: Time for Change put a welcome spotlight on this area, setting out a wide range of measures which can play a part in increasing the chances of success of a lasting reunion.
